Thank you so much for all the acts of kindness and appreciation this week! This week has been so special and everyday I was showered with hugs, kind words and amazing treats. Everyone went above and beyond to make me feel appreciated and loved. It has been a week of happiness. My favorite part was all the love coming from the kiddos and them sharing their different acts of kindness.
I am in shock with all the wonderful things that happened this week. Everything was a perfect fit for me and I can not thank you ALL enough!
Thank you again for all the extra goodies my heart and belly are truly happy!

At school I was treated with a manicure and the end of the day I received a tea, treat and a GC to get my nails and toes done! Tuesday, I was showered with so many flower I was able to make them into three bouquets to spread around my home, a yummy smelling candle and some cards made by my kiddos! Sadly, Mo Willems has decided to end the Piggie and Elephant series. This book is a perfect fit for the week a thanks from you but a special thanks from me! I can not wait to share this book with the kids, I am not going to read it without them as Friday when they saw it I promised we would experience it together! Launching our Final PBL Project!
Our Spring project has a lot of learning opportunities, but I think the most valued in my mind is collaboration. So often we look at students as a unit of one trying to move forward and face academia on their own. One of our pillars is "we learn everywhere, we learn together." I see so much value in being able to work within a group of people that have different perspectives, different strengths, and different academic needs. I vividly remember those "group project days" when I came home so upset about the dynamics going on in my group. Now is the time to start building those skills around how we work towards a common goal with people that may be vastly different from us. There will be conflict, there will be some tears, but in the end we will learn the value of compromising and the value of realizing that my way may not always be the best way. I mention this because as we dive deeper into this Spring project, we need your support. Remember, true collaboration that comes from students working together and not the teacher telling them what to do can be a little messy at times. Trust the process :) We are setting up kindergarteners for their future PBL work at QAE and opening their eyes to the rich learning opportunities they have amongst their peers. We all have something to learn from each other. Our first collaborative exercise was to complete a 100 pc Africa savanna puzzle. The beauty of working on collaborative skills is for students to figure out for themselves how they should go about completing the task. Instead of assigning them jobs and telling them to do the edges first, I just dumped the pieces on the floor. Sitting back and watching what happens next is where the real learning takes place. At the end of the 25 minutes I asked them, "what went well, and what could we do differently next time?." | |
We discussed how it felt to work together and answered the questions of what went well and what we could do differently next time. Here were their thoughts:
What went well:
| What could we do differently:
|
Making a plan and keeping the things above in mind, groups created African Savannas!
African Savanna Collaboration
On Friday we colored them.
For the past two weeks we having been talking a lot about animals. This week we took a deeper look at the African Savanna. We began by writing down things we thing we know about all animals, followed by questions about what we want to learn!? We a made list of animals we know live on the savanna and learned lots on new and information from various books! |

Math Challenge
Room 112 has been interested in the monthly math challenges put out by our math specialist Ms. Francisco. These challenges are on the QAE page but since it correlated with our learning of combinations and logic we gave it a go!
